This thimble was made by Simons Bros for the Smithsonian in 1984. It is silver gilt and measures to a size 8.
The thimble design is a reproduction of a thimble that was in the late Mary Gallatin Hoppin collection, a NY socialite who was from a very important family. Mary was the great-grand daughter of Mr. Albert Callatin of Switzerland. Albert was the first Swiss to inscribe his name in the annals of young America. Mary’s collection was donated to the Smithsonian.
Marked with the Simons Bros. trademark in the inside top and sterling silver.
