Dieppe is a small French seaport village. At the end of the 18th century and into the early 19th century small ivory figures were carved in Dieppe.
This very detailed and expertly carved fisherwoman in traditional Dieppe costume, opens at the waist to reveal a cylinder for sewing needles. She holds tiny fish in her one hand. Measures 9 cm in height and with a seal base.
